Free Happiness

I know, I know, I said money can buy happiness.

But sometimes it's free!

I have to say, I LOVE love love having created a playlist, even if I can't find "Orange Colored Sky" by Natalie Cole, or "I Got a Funny Feeling You Don't Love Me Anymore" by Weird Al.

I forgot how much I love music. I love how I can mix and match individual songs digitally. Songs that matter to me. It totally beats making a mix cassette tape like I did in high school or college.* Hmmm, maybe next I'll get an Ipod! (not.)

Oh, and the good news is that for all of you who are annoyed by the playlists that start blasting music when you're stalking blogs, you can scroll down and turn their (my) music off.

My first song is welcoming everyone to my blog ("Consider yourself part of the furniture"), one of my favorite songs from the play Oliver! But it's flippin' five, yes, countem, five minutes long! So, until I make myself an mp3 edit of the best of the song, consider yourself part of the family for about a minute, and then, by golly, click on the next song!

*I later stopped listening to these mixes because I made most of them from a random song here and there from CDs/tapes that friends/roommates owned, not ones I had paid for. That's why being able to BUY individual songs is so cool now (and even better when they're free, like when creating a playlist for my blog!).

I heart Weird Al. Must try and find some of his stuff ... The white stuff, the one you mentioned ... clean hilarious goodness.

Bwaaahaaa haaaa!

Yes, I also love "White and Nerdy," especially his line about being fluent in c++ (programming language) and Klingon (from Star Trek, of course).

If you watch White and Nerdy on Youtube, Donnie Osmond is jumping around behind Weird Al for the latter part of the song. Crazy, huh!

My favorite of all his songs is "You Don't Love Me," though. Sometimes it's hard to find on Youtube, but it's the where Weird Al is singing to this gal in this soft, love-songy song, about he's getting this 'funny feeling' she doesn't love him anymore: "...You put my face down on the barbecue grill. My wounds are all healing, but my heart never will.... I even think it's kinda cute the way, you poison my coffee just a little each day. If you don't mind me askin', what's this poisonous cobra, doing in my underwear drawer? I've got a funny feeling, you don't love me, anymore."

BWAAAAHAAAAAAAAHAAAAA!!!!

And...on the line of more free happiness. If you join Facebook and friend me (under Kara Kemp Cook), I will play challenge sudoku with you to your hearts content. It is a terrible time waster, but has saved my sanity more than once.

Ooh, Kara, you tempt me! How I looooove to waste time. Especially doing Sudoku!

Yup, Weird Al's got some truly excellent original songs. Not just "You Don't Love Me Any More" (that's its real name) but "One More Minute," "Dare To Be Stupid," "Hardware Store"... yup, quite a few. ~OE
