Self worth

I saw the following poem hand-written in calligraphy, matted and framed, in a Dr's waiting room a few years ago, and I whipped out my pen and pad and copied it all down. Tonight I happened upon the poem--it was and is deeply touching to me. It wasn't titled, so here it is:

After awhile you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and charming a soul,

And you learn
That love doesn't mean leaning
And company doesn't always mean security,

And you begin to learn
That kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises,

And you begin to accept
Your defeats with the grace of a woman,
Not the grief of a child.

And you learn to build your road on today
Because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid flight.

After awhile you learn
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.

So plant your own garden and decorate your own soil
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers,

And then you discover
You really can endure
That you are strong
And you really do have worth.

Love it. I found a great quote in a police station.... if only I could remember it.

LOL, Shelly! In a police station!

I tiny bit cliche-ish but I loved that. I might recycle it for my post on Thursday when (if we can get something together) my husband and I will write a joint 10-year wedding anniversary post.

I agree, it can be termed cliche. However, it hit me just right at the right time, which moved it up a category, to 'uplifting.'

It says a lot that you can see something being cliche, but still love it. We're able to laugh at ourselves sometimes at what moves us, and still love it at the same time. Now that, I think, is deep.

And congrats on 10 years; we celebrate 12 in May. Whoa. Big whoa. We're *that* old already???

ps. You're welcome to re-use (I love that term 'recycle') any blog post material you want. Makes me feel like the material I blog about is blogworthy.

Helloooo validation, I love it!

I was going to add the poem into the post but it just didn't seem to fit. I will still use it, though.

You changed the look of your blog and it totally confused me!! :-)

That is ssssoooo cool, Natasha. I blog love you. I'm quite flattered myself. : )

Sorry to confuse you with the new blog background; it's the first time I've changed it since I started the blog last June.

A couple people have told me it was hard to read. Too bad, because I LOVED my last blog background.
